Mikri Vigla is located on the Geek island Naxos. Its known for the strong Meltemi winds which hits the small beach during the summer months in a side-onshore direction.

๐Ÿ“ Kite Spot: Mikri Vigla

โ„น๏ธ Spot description

The spot consists of a 1 kilometer beach line which is split into ab swimming and kite surfing area. However, during the heavily windy Meltemi days the whole beach is packed with Kitesurfer and swimming guests prefer to spend the day on the other side of the headland that grants a calm beach section.

The wind appears to be quite gusty offers a lot of lift for big air jumps. The forecast from Windguru is the way to go.

Lonely low wind sunset session at Mikri Vigla

A few tips for this spot:

  • Aim for morning and sunset sessions for less traffic on the water. Kite lessons during the day make it challenging to access / leave the water
  • The wind picks up during the day and is strongest in the area just before the small island
  • Avoid jumping close to the launching and landing area. (Should be needless to say anyhow) This section of the beach is busy enough due to kite lessons and no one likes show-offs anyhow.
  • Upwind is always plenty of space and no need to fear beginners (they donโ€™t get there)
