Ilha do Guajiru is located in the north-eastern Ceará, Brazil. From the airport of Fortaleza it takes about 3 hours to get there.
📍 Kite Spot: Ilha do Guajiru
ℹ️ Spot description
At the tiny village Ilha do Guajiru it is all about kite surfing. It consists of a few pousadas (accommodations), restaurants, kiteschools and shops directly located next to a big lagoon.
This lagoon is kiteable approximately 3 hours before and after high tide. The tides can be checked on Windguru, Tide Itarema and Wisuki (Tide). Apart from the lagoon, kite surfing the sea, which is separated from the lagoon by a sand bench, is always an option.
The wind is pretty constant and side shore coming from the eastern. The water in the lagoon is exceptionally flat and mostly hip high water.

This makes Ilha do Guajiru the perfect spot for first kite lessons as well as laboratory to enhance skills. However, be advised that this kite spot is almost too comfortable. Getting to other spots with harsher conditions such as gusty winds, high waves, cold temperatures etc. may come as a snap back to „reality“.
👇🏽 Downwinders
Because of the side shore conditions, doing a downwinder together in a group can be a nice adventure.
To get started kite downwind from Ilha do Guajiru to Hura Beach. This is where the lagoon meets the ocean. It is also nicknamed „stinky spot“ because of its light seaweed smell. But don’t get turned off because it that. Its really worth to go there enjoy the spot, exit at the Hura Beach have a break with lunch and drinks and go back with a shuttle or even by kite (took about 10 nice upwind tacks)
The bigger distance downwinder of 12km to recommend is taking a shuttle to Almofala and go kite down to Ilha do Guajiru

The highlight is definitely the part where it is possible to kite a totally flat river with mangroves on the sides. This river can be entered from the seaside.

🧭 Arrival
Within 3 hours of driving Ilha do Guajiru can be reached with a normal car. No 4WDs are needed like at some other spots on the northern coastline.

It might be advisable to get there with an organized transfer. For the time of the stay a rental car is not needed, because everything is within walking distance.
