Lake Santa Croce (Lago di Santa Croce), nestled in the Veneto region of northern Italy, is a top kite spot known for its reliable thermal winds from April to September. Thanks to the Venturi effect in the nearby valley, winds here typically range from 20–40 km/h, perfect for both beginners and experienced riders.

ℹ️ Spot description
The lake offers a spacious gras and gravel beach, clear shallow water near the shore, and plenty of room for various water sports. The spot works through thermal conditions which are best on clear sunny days and a forcasted wind from the south.
The launching and landing area can get really busy with kite surfers of every experience level. Watch out for other kiters both off and on the water (rights off way often not followed). Best advice is to kite upwind and enjoy a session without too much traffic.
With kite surf schools, campsites, and chill lake vibes surrounded by the Dolomites, it’s the ideal spot for combining sport, nature, and relaxation.

You reach the spot after driving through a scenic mountain landscape. It is located at the northern side of the lake.
The parking lot is right next to the spot and costs 12€ per day. If you decide to camp. The huge camping area Sarathei also right next to the spot. And you’ll be in good company with other water sport enthusiasts.

📍 Kite Spot: Lago Morto
ℹ️ Spot description
The lake is located in the south of Lago di Santa Croce. It is relatively small and surrounded by steep mountains ans highway bridges.
It works with a breeze of north wind indicated at windfinder for the morning hours 04:00 to 09:00. Kite surfing during these morning hours at Lago di Morto is somehow special, because during the session the spot gets brighter as the sun rises. Having breakfast at the nearby area after the session is quite rewarding.
Compared to the Lago di Santa Croce not a lot of people are making use of this early morning session. Waking up very and being at the spot can earn you a private kite session without anyone else. Apart from the early hours the spot is quite empty because people at the campsite Sarathei are allowed to leave the camping area after 08:00 only (to prevent car noises in the morning).
The lake can have noticeable differences in wind strength side to side. Make sure to be aware of low wind areas to keep the kite up in the air.
🧭 Arrival
Through a small country road the spot is reached. The gravel parking lot right next to the spot is for free and usually not too busy at this time of the day.
